Permanent makeup by Allison Gretsuk

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at allisongretsuk@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Every appointment is booked for 2 and a half hours. Sometimes it may take a little less than that, or a little longer but this is generally what to expect for all procedures.

The short answer is no! I numb you for your appointment with a topical lidocaine-based agent before we get started. Once we begin the procedure, there is a secondary numbing to keep you comfortable throughout.

Most clients have absolutely no discomfort for brows. Lips and eyelids are a bit more sensitive, with lips being the most sensitive. I try to communicate with you throughout the appointment to make sure you’re comfortable, so never be afraid to speak up!

No. While permanent makeup is designed to fade and be updated over the years, it is still a tattoo. Any change to your skin (especially where we are implanting a pigmented ink) should be approached as a permanent change. Semi permanent is a marketing ploy often used to talk people into these procedures.

In some cases it truly does fade away as far as you can tell with the naked eye, but there can also be scar tissue, residual pigment, or other minor changes.

Healing varies by procedure so let me break it down for you!

Brows:

Initial aftercare is 5 days of keeping the area completely dry. You’ll be provided with aftercare to keep them clean, and some shields to keep water out of the area while showering. You need to avoid sweating into the area, as this can introduce bacteria.

After 5 days, you can wash your face as usual but just dry the area gently. The brows will be darker and more red-tinged when they’re fresh and will oxidize a bit and appear even darker day 2-3. As they flake, they’ll be lighter underneath as newly healing skin may “hide” some of the pigment. Over the next 4 weeks, they’ll gradually settle into their final color. If its your first session, this is where we can make a judgment call on tweaking color and shape at your follow-up session 6-8 weeks later.

Once they’re smooth to the touch, you can apply SPF to the area to help prevent fading.

Lips:

Lips heal fairly quickly but dramatically. They’ll look like lipstick when fresh, and you may have noticeable swelling the first day. The lips will become flaky almost like a bad winter chapped lip over the first 3-5 days. Unscented lip moisturizers will be your best friend during this phase!

The color may appear to completely fade after this point and will gradually “bloom” back over the next month. Lip tissue is highly vascular and unique, so this is a difficult process to describe! Your final results from your procedure will be your 4-6 week results, so your follow up appointment will be 6-8 weeks after your first session.
